About me and my therapy practice

Life can be difficult at times due to external or internal factors, or a mixture of both. This may be a time when we seek a space to talk about our feelings, thought, behaviours and associated elements. Counselling provides a space to reflect on things, experience items and consider ways to address the concerns.

Ultimately, you are the expert on you, and are uniquely you. You know what you are experiencing, as an individual, and can indicate what things require support. We will work together to consider these areas and current theories, explanations and strategies to enable you to grow and to address the areas.

Using an integrative counselling approach, I use a variety of approaches in a tailored way to support, facilitate and empower you.

To support you, during counselling, I have experience gained in varied contexts : as a counsellor, Senior Lecturer, Supervisor and Counselling Service Manager. These experiences have involved specialising in counselling theory, practice and application alongside considering ethics; and this knowledge and the skills are continually updated.

In a therapeutic relationship, we will explore the issues presented and your thoughts, emotions and behaviours with respect and empathy. Sometimes, emotions need to be expressed and accepted. Other times, there may be specific emotional management or alternative perspectives that may feel empowering. Your experiences will be respected and counselling will offer a non-judgemental space for you to explore and make your own sense of the most suitable way to manage and navigate things.

About me and my therapy practice

Life can be difficult at times due to many factors and events. Life is multi-layered and there are many experiences that can impact our experiences.  Counselling/Psychotherapy offers a space where you can talk about your experiences and concerns.

Counselling can provide a space to reflect on things, experience items and seek self-understanding, release emotions and consider ways to address and explore strategies but also to consider the certainty and uncertainty that is a part of being human and how to manage these co-existing experiences and emotions.

Ultimately, you are the expert on you, and are uniquely you, and my approach seeks to value and respect your uniqueness. We will work together to consider the areas and concerns that you have, and consider current theories, explanations and strategies to enable you to move towards greater self-understanding, empowerment and to address the areas in ways that work for you.

Using an integrative counselling approach, I use a variety of approaches in a tailored way to support, facilitate and empower you. In the therapeutic relationship, we will explore the issues presented.

To support you, during counselling, I have 20 years' experience within counselling and educational domains related to psychotherapy and counselling and continue to develop and engage in personal and professional development. I also have varied lived experiences/professional experiences in some areas which can support you within the relational space of counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

My supervisory approach is integrative, and I can offer person-centred and integrative supervision.

I am trained in using the Hawkins and Shohet integrative  model and have offered supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors for the previous 8 years.

I have supervised qualified counsellors/psychotherapists who work in private practice and within a range of organisations-across charitable and private sectors. Supervision involves adhering to sector relevant ethical codes and associated organisational, legal, professional and personal aspects being considered. We reflect on relational dynamics and educational, managerial and educational requirements. We consider the client centrality and we co-reflect on case aspects, ethical dilemmas and associated.

I have supported supervisees during their accreditation processes and have extensive experience in supporting qualified counsellors in their role.

All supervision involves collaboratively reflecting  and ensuring the educational, managerial and supportive angles of supervision. We co-reflect on caseload and broader learning elements to ensure currency, ethical considerations and dilemmas plus integrate legal, practical and policy wide considerations alongside pedagogical learning to ensure that your practice adheres to the required frameworks, theoretical approach and your style.

Your own therapeutic approach, values and beliefs with reflexivity will be considered and self care areas.

Trainee Counsellors  : I have supervisory experience gained from working with trainees on Level 4/Level 5, PGDip, MA and MSc programmes and Doctoral programmes within Counselling/Psychotherapy across FE and HE contexts.

This experience has led to qualifications for trainees, required report writing, and co-responsibility of caseload considerations, working with organisations and ensuring the highest standards for trainees in line with ethical, legal, educational and health guidance to ensure the appropriateness for clients and supervisees.

Practice description

Within supervision we co-reflect on caseload and consider the managerial, educational and supportive elements required for the client, you, the relational considerations and consider the systemic elements from society too.

As a qualified counsellor, you will have your own requirements for supervision and this will be respected and highlighted. We will adhere to sector requirements, legislative requirements and immerse in the on-going process of development within counselling.

We will co-educate, co-manage and co-consider sector items and ethical dilemmas, support and self care plus varied perspectives within the space to support the client centrality-as required by you and in line with professional bodies and sector standards, plus you can highlight the focus that you would like within the space for the sessions. You are the expert within the space and the facilitation of experiencing can be explored across a myriad of theories, approaches, relationally and also with key techniques to enable and empower.

As a trainee counsellor, my role- as a supervisor is to provide supervision in line with your organisational requirements, in line with the awarding body, to adhere to BACP professional standards and associated considerations sector wide. It is expected that you will be ensuring your developing competecy in line with this, too.

I will highlight managerial considerations where required and ensure that these are implemented where required for ensuring the standards, client and supervisee beneficence and ensure the ethical principles and values are transmitted, whilst adhering to the training specifications and monitoring competency, supporting your needs and requirements whilst ensuring that we are considering the client centrality within the therapeutic work. We will co-reflect and co-discuss areas and complete the relevant documentation-as required.
